Sara Nazarbayeva not in favor of international adoption of Kazakh children

Kazakh president's wife, the head of the Charitable Children's Foundation Bobek," Sara Nazarbayeva is against the adoption of Kazakh children by residents from other countries.

"We must take care of our own children and not give them away abroad," said Mrs Nazarbayeva on October 19 at the fourth section of the World Forum of Spiritual Culture in Astana.

"International adoption in our country is not something we can be proud of. But it happens. We are striving to change that," she said, responding to a question of a forum participant.

Replying to another question, Sara Nazarbayeva, made it clear that she was not a supporter of women's active involvement in social and political life either.

"Our women are now at all levels. But they have forgotten their main mission: to care for their children and family. That's what we need to focus on. All those political and social duties must come next, while being a woman and raising healthy members of the society is what really matters," said Sara Nazarbayev.

The World Forum of Spiritual Culture is held in Astana on October 18-20.
