ASTANA AND WASHINGTON CLOSELY COOPERATING IN KAZAKHSTANI URANIUM SUPPLIES TO U.S. COMPANIES’

Astana. May 18. Interfax-Kazakhstan - Kazakhstan and the U.S. are implementing a number of contracts to supply Kazakhstani uranium to the U.S, head of Kazakhstan’s national atomic company Kazatomprom Vladimir Shkolnik said.

“When our delegation led by President Nazarbayev attended the Washington nuclear summit in April 2010, we held a series of talks with the U.S. Energy Department and major energy companies about the potential supplies of our uranium to the U.S. Today we are implementing a number of mutually beneficial contracts,” Shkolnik said at the international conference “Kazakhstan-USA: 20 Years of Partnership for Security and Development” in Astana on Friday.

“In twenty years we have gone the way from the reduction of nuclear threat and dismantlement of nuclear weapons infrastructure to joint business in the nuclear field. This is the highest degree of trust and cooperation,” Shkolnik noted.

Kazatomprom is one of the leading uranium producers in the world.
