SHYGYSENERGOTRADE MAY HAVE NEW OWNER - KEGOC HEAD

Almasadam Satkaliyev, the head of KEGOC, the Kazakh national power grid operator, has said that Shygysenergotrade LLP, a power supply organization in the East Kazakhstan region, may have a new owner soon.

“The situation has to be rectified, maybe by the local authorities. Either the owner of the company may be changed, or the government may acquire a stake in the company, or some stimulating measures devised,” he told a press conference in Astana on January 27.

Shygysenergotrade is a business unit of AES.

As reported, KEGOC is accusing Shygysenergotrade of unauthorized withdrawal of electricity from the national power grid and threatens to use technical measures to make the company return the electricity into the grid.

Shygysenergotrade has warned it may have to limit the electricity supply. The company says it is unable to purchase the required volume of electricity, as there is some uncertainty about the electricity tariffs for 2010.
