CHELAKH'S RELATIVES QUESTION AUTHENTICITY OF CAVE VIDEO
Almaty. July 27. Interfax-Kazakhstan - The relatives of border guard Vladislav Chelakh doubt the video allegedly shot by Vladislav hiding in a cave on a stolen video camera really features him.
"A detailed look at the video presented by the investigation team and purporting to show Vlad with stolen things reveals it is not Vlad," Vladislav Chelakh's grandfather Vladimir Chelakh told a Friday press conference in Almaty.
The border guard's mother Svetlana Vaschenko noted that "the hand of the filming person wearing a watch is unharmed, while at our meeting Vlad was wearing a bandage on his hand".
As reported, on May 30 a border patrol unit from the Sary Bokter border post found the building of the Arkankergen post to be destroyed by fire. Fourteen of the fifteen personnel and a game warden, who lived in a nearby lodge, were dead.
The fifteenth border guard from Arkankergen, Vladislav Chelakh, was later found alive. He confessed to murdering his fellow servicemen and the game warden.
According to the investigation team, Chelakh could not give a clear motive for his crime.
On Wednesday Chelakh's lawyer Tulegen Berlikozhanov said his client had retracted his initial confession and said he did not kill his service mates.
A psychiatric examination has found Vladislav Chelakh to be competent to stand trial.
